Embedding Items

Once you have selected one of our templates and chosen your site's name and web address, you will find yourself on the home page as shown below. If you are on your website but can't see the editing menu, make sure you are signed in with the website owner's account.

The "Insert" Menu

The insert menu provides various options for inserting media (images, video, albums) or apps (calendars, maps, charts, documents) and even a place to insert code (HTML, CSS and JavaScript) for more advanced users. We will refer to this menu throughout our tutorial.

Insert an Image:

While editing the website, place your cursor where you would like to insert the image. Then select Image from the Insert Menu and either upload an image you have saved locally, or use a web address of an image already online.

You can also insert an image from your Google Drive account. From the Insert Menu select Drive > Image and proceed to choose one of your images.

Modify an Image:

After uploading an image and selecting OK, your image will appear within the body of the website. To move the image, simply click and drag.

For additional options, click on an image to view the image menu. This will allow you to center or left/right justify the image, change its size or align the image with text.

Additionally the image can be made to point to itself or another page on your website/the internet. This can be done by selecting change on the image menu. To completely remove the link, select remove.

Insert a Video:

While editing the website, place your cursor where you would like to insert the video. Then select YouTube from the Insert Menu and add a link to a video found on Youtube.

You can also insert a video from your Google Drive account. From the Insert Menu select Drive > Video and proceed to choose one of your videos.

Modify a Video:

After inserting a video and selecting Save, your video will appear within the body of the website. To move the video, simply click and drag.

For additional options, click on the video to view the video menu. This will allow you to center or left/right justify the image, align the image with text, or change the settings you used during your initial set-up.

Inserting from Google Drive:

Google Drive is deeply integrated with Google Sites. Documents, Spreadsheets, presentations, images, drawings, videos, forms, etc can all be inserted by selecting Drive in the Insert Menu. After selecting the type of file you would like to insert, choose the height and width of the file and Save.

Inserting a Map:

While editing the website, place your cursor where you would like to insert the map. Then select Map from the Insert Menu and navigate to the location you would like by searching or using the preview.

Insert a Facebook Button:

To add a Facebook button, go to Facebook and visit this website to retrieve your like button code. When deciding what code to use, select IFRAME.

To insert this on your Google Site, select the <HTML> button and paste your code in an empty space. Select Update. To move the button, simply click and drag.

The result should generate a Facebook button. The type of button you choose at the beginning will determine what the button looks like. Clicking the button will either like the page or recommend it to your friends.

Inserting a Google+ Button:

A Google+ button is easier to insert. While editing the website, place your cursor where you would like to insert the button. Then select +1 Button from the Insert Menu and choose the type of button.

The result should generate a Google +1 button. The type of button you choose at the beginning will determine what the button looks like.
